Awaken: A Night of Worship and Prayer for Men

A few years ago, Brian Doyle, the founder of the Iron Sharpens Iron Men’s Ministry, came up with a brilliant concept – Pastoral ministry is lonely and challenging. He saw that Pastors need a critical mass of the men of the church to intentionally intercede and affirm them as the spiritual leaders of the local church.

The concept was so appealing to me that I registered my church home, Edgewater United Methodist Church Port Charlotte. We signed up 31 men to pray for our pastor – one for every day of the month. I had to be intentional about asking each man to pray for the pastor because our human nature dictates that’s not what we do. The beautiful part is that the end result is a pastor bathed in prayer every day by the men they lead.

Awaken is an opportunity for the men of the United Methodist Church to gather with other men in the same district to intentionally pray for the church, its leaders, and each other. It’s designed to build unity among men, connect men in regular prayer for their pastor, and to fulfill the mission of the United Methodist Church – “to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.”

This first “Awaken” worship and prayer night will be held in the East Central District as follows:

November 8, 2018 (Thursday)
Spaghetti Dinner @ 6:30pm – $5.00
