Saying Goodbye

My God is able to save and deliver and heal and restore anything that He wants to. Just ask the man who was thrown on the bones of Elisha if there’s anything that He can’t do. Just ask the stone that was rolled at the tomb in the garden what happens when God says to move. -Lyrics from “RATTLE” by Elevation Worship

Since I was 18 years old, I’ve been motivated and inspired by music. On June 12, 1998, just 6 weeks prior to my 38th birthday, I walked onto the field at Tropicana Field and into the arms of Jesus as the Promise Keepers worship team played “Let It Rise.” I vividly remember the call to “move!” It was a moment that changed my life and began a now 2+ decade passion for helping men meet Jesus and become better husbands, fathers, and Godly men.

Along the way, God led me to the UMM ministry and a role as a district leader. Little did I know that a meeting divinely arranged by God would create a dynamic friendship that would ultimately lead to the change of UMM in Florida as it had been known for almost 50 years. All because God said, “move!”

Today marks the culmination of 6+ years of faithful, diligent work, with one goal in mind – to create a ministry to men with discipleship at its core. Along with my partner in ministry, Michael Maxwell, when God said “move,” we moved!

Today we say “Goodbye” to a ministry that accomplished great things in its past, but a ministry whose culture and practices have run their course. Today we say hello to the “birth” of a totally revamped ministry to men, the Wesley Brotherhood.

We say “thank you” to the men who came before us and paved the way. We say “come join” us to all men of the Florida Conference United Methodist Church. God is saying, “move!” Will you follow His call?
